hyperlinks notworking

I have a win xp pro machine on which hyperlinks cannot
and will not work. The hyperlinks do not work in outlook,
word and aol. I looked at the filetypes and the url
extension is associated with I.E. but when I clik on any
link it does not work. any help will be greatly
appreciated.
