Hyperlinks in TOC

I am writing a long document in WORD 2003. I created a TOC; when I view it in
Web View, the TOC entries are underlined (hence, look like hyperlinks), but
when I click on them I am not transferred to the corresponding text.

An earlier version, created by someone else, had a TOC in which the
hyperlinks worked. After editing the text extensively, I created a new TOC
which reflects all the changes I made, but now the hyperlinks don't work. Any
ideas about what I am doing wrong?

When you hold the mouse over one of those hyperlinks, do you see a
message about "CTRL+click to follow link"? That's different from
earlier versions -- it's meant to make it easier to select and copy
the link, although personally I think MS got it backwards.

You can restore the old behavior by going to Tools > Options > Edit
and unchecking "Use CTRL+click to follow link".
