I am building a TOC for a large document which spans 4 volumes. I would like
one TOC that covers the entire 4 volume set and a separate TOC for each
volume. I have created a single master TOC using RD fields and that works
well. I would like to know if there is a way to create a master TOC out of
the 4 single volume TOC's in a way that will allow me to insert text between
the TOC's in the master listing?
I couldn't get the bookmarks to work with the RD fields (Bookmark not found
message) and the master TOC seems to want to read all of the RD fields and
build one big TOC no matter how I set it up.

You cannot "split" the table of contents in the "master" document where you
inserted the RD fields. But you can insert a TC (table of contents entry)
field at the beginning of each sub-document to add the text that you want to
include with the TOC.

First, display hidden text. In each of the sub-documents, add { TC "Your
text here" \n }. To insert the field delimiters, { }, press Ctrl+F9. Type
the code as shown.

In the "master" document, add the \f switch to the TOC field code. Update
the TOC.

Thanks Stefan. I added appropriately described TC fields in the subdocuments
and adjusted my TOC levels to provide the appropriate character formatting
and spacing and it works great.

Now I am off to see about adding an alpha prefix to my page numbers (e.g. ES
1, ES 2, etc. for Executive Summary) but that's another post and another day.

Thanks again,

Joe
