TOC outside document with hyperlinks

I have a few files for a document.

I created the TOC in a file by itself using the RD commands. The page
numbers are not hyperlinks, is there a way for the TOC page numbers to be
hyperlinks or it does not do it because of the separate files?

No, unfortunately, a TOC created with RD fields is not hyperlinked (and I
think cannot be made to be without unlinking the TOC and creating the
hyperlinks manually).

I am trying to do the same thing. I get the TOC OK but no hyperlinks. I can
manually create hyperlinks and they work. Time consuming but it works. But
when I update the TOC the links disappear. Is there a way to keep manual
formatting and still automatically update a TOC?
