We can hyperlink dwg files back to the original path. My question is does
that mean that if i update the original file (i.e: remove a line or at a box)
will the hyperlink image in the PPT presentation also update? or do i have to
copy in the new drawing..

It depends on how you insert the drawing. If you use Insert > Picture >
From File there is no update. It's just another image. However if you drag
and drop it on the slide it will be updated each time you restart the
presentation. However there is a gotcha, (always is). Doing it this way
will cause the presentation to REALLY grow in size because you are creating
an OEL link. (Some of the original application get's placed into the
presentation.)

If you use Insert, Picture, From File and then click the little arrow button
thing next to the OK button and choose Link, it sets up a link to the original
image file. PowerPoint will update the image from that file each time you open
the presentation, so if the drawing's changed, so will the PPT slide the
drawing's been added to.

If you need to move the whole works around from computer to computer, you'll
find it quite difficult as the links break in the breeze raised by every
butterfly that passes within a four-state radius.

The free demo version of FixLinks at http://fixlinks.pptools.com helps make the
links more butterflyproof. <g>
