Dave

I recently signed up with Cable internet (formerly used
Compuserve). Now when I'm using Outlook express, if I
click on a hyperlink, it still tries to use Compuserve
with dial-up to go to the web page instead of going
through my cable connection. Is there something in
Network connections that will allow me to set the cable
as the default connection or force hyperlinks to go
through the cable connection? I can't seem to find any
solution other than removing compuserve from my computer,
which I don't want to do for another month.

Thanks for any help.

Open Internet Explorer;
Goto Tools>Internet Options>Connections Tab;

Select the "Never dial a connection" box.

Hope I helped;

Dave,
If you do not need to use CompuServe anymore, even as a backup for cable failure. I would recommend that you delete the connectoid from Internet Properties.

Control Panel> Internet Properties (Options)> Connections tab> Select the CompuServe Entry> Delete it.

If you need to keep CompuServe as a backup, at the same Connection tab screen> Select " Never Dial a Selection".
Also in OE, you should change a setting for each mail/news acct.

In OE> TOOLS> Accounts> Mail/News Acct> Select each acct> Properties button> Connection tab> Uncheck "Always use this Connection> for each acct.

Thanks for your suggestions. I had done most of those
things already, none of which helped. However, I did
happen to stumble across the solution. In the start menu
I saw "Set program access and defaults". In there I was
able to set Internet Explorer as the default web browser,
and now the hyperlinks go directly through Internet
Explorer. Thanks again for your help.

Dave,
I was just wondering, before you found the fix you are using now, did you try to set IE as your default browser through Internet Properties?

Control Panel> Internet Properties> Programs> Check, "Have IE checked for being default browser", or words to that effect.

I am also thinking that if and when you decide to remove the CompuServe software from your PC, you might need to run the repair feature for IE. The removal of CS, maybe like the removal of Netscape, might mess up IE software. But I am not sure about that, just something that you should think about.
