hy won't outlook remember my password?

When I go into Outlook, it asks me for my user name and password (the one
that works with my popserver account) and even when I check "save to password
list" it never remembers it and I have to retype it each time.

I don't know what version of Windows you're using but this should be more or
less correct...

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Advanced > Manage Passwords.

Find the name of the POP server in the list and Remove it.

Then try logging in and saving the password again.

I have Outlook 2007 Windows Vista. I think your instructions apply to a
different version? Thanks for trying.

When I open Control Panel, there is an option "User Accounts and Family
Safety." Under that are 2 options, "set up parental controls" and "add or
remove user accounts." The latter allows me to change popserver info but this
has not helped. Thanks if you have any other suggestions.

Sorry Jan, I only have a business version of Vista here and I don't know the
Home UI well enough to walk you through from memory. Try using Windows Help
and search for Manage Passwords, usually there's a link from the help topic.

Otherwise, maybe someone on here has a copy of Vista Home and would be kind
enough to set me straight...)

That's a known problem with Outlook 2002 and Vista. It's got compatibility
issues, and the password issue is one of them.

Hi,

So, are there any ways to deal with this compatibility issue or should i
upgrade to a newer version of outlook?

No, the issue lies with WIndows Vista and the inability to use the protected storage key value in the registry. Upgrading to either Office 2003 or 2007 is the only option for Outlook.
