Hung Telnet Sessions

Chris

I've had a frequent issue with XP and now XP with SP1
whereby telnet sessions hang and I cannot close them or
even shut down my workstation without powering off. As a
network admin I spend quite a bit of time in telnet.

This usually occurs if I leave a telnet session open too
long and the connection is killed from the remote side.
I do not see telnet as either a thread using plist or
taskman so there's nothing I can kill. The window just
sits there until I power off and reboot.

Any thoughts would be appreciated....

I find same with XP's standard Telnet program. It's just a little
program that has hardly changed over the years.

I've had much better luck and an happier with PuTTY which is a free
implementation of Telnet and SSH for Windows. Search on Google to find it.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I'm glad I'm not the only
one though. I haven't found any reference to it through
google or ther newsgroups, but its been a pain in the
neck for me.
