Hung Application

I have been trying for a week to update an engineering program already
installed on my PC with Windows XP PRO SP2. The SW needed for update is on CD.
Following the instruction I run setup.exe that immediately freezes.
I have to kill the idle process.
I checked my system error log and it says:
"ApplicationHung (Category 101) EventID 1002".
I collect other information as follows (I hope it could be useful):

SzAppName:Setup.exe SzAppVer:1.0.0.0 SzModName:HungApp SzModVer:0.0.0.0
offset:00000000.

C:\docume~1\Renato~1\Impost~1\temp\werc035dir00\setup.exe.mdmp (I didn't
find this file on my PC)

C:\docume~1\Renato~1\Impost~1\temp\werc035dir00\appcompat.txt(I didn't find
this file on my PC)

I would like to thank you for suggestion. I checked the Eventid web site
unlucky I didn't find any suitable suggestion. Don't you mind to give me
other good advice?
