Huge .pst file size

What causes a PST file to grow from 32MB to 1.04GB within a few days. I
tried running an "in-depth" chkdsk to see if windows was reporting the size
incorrectly, but it didn't find anything wrong. I went through all my emails
and didn't find anything bigger than 723KB. It's weird because I have it
stored on my System C: partition which always had free space of 1.25GB, but
when the PST file changed from 32MB to 1.04GB, windows still reports that the
System C: partition is at 1.25GB. If somebody could please help me out with
this, I would really appreciate it; cause Roxio won't let me make backup
copies to CDs anymore now that it supposedly exceeds 700MB. Thank you.

Right click on the top of the folder level - where it probably says outlook
today. Choose properties. In that dialog is a folder size dialog. See if it
shows you where there might be messages of an unexpected size. Also - did
you look in the journal? If you opened a lot of documents or received some
large emails, they might be journeyed.

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you said and found out that Oulook
reports the total size (fld + subfld) as 31813K. But windows still reports
it as 1.04GB. I checked the personal folders path to make sure it was
pointing towards the 1.04GB file and it was. It doesn't make any sense. I'm
running WinXP Pro SP2 and MS Outlook 2000.

Try compacting the folders. RIght-click Outlook Today, choose Properties.
Click Advanced, then Compact Now.
