Huge problem

I went to update my zone alarm fire wall, and all hell broke loose.
The shutdown sequence no longer functions (and thus the system restore
can't work). My virus scans no longer function, and there are a
variety of actions that bring up two errors.

The errors are:

The Application or DLL is not a valid windows image please check
against your installation diskette.

The exception Breakpoint
A breakpoint has been reached
(0x80000003) occured in the application location 0x7c839a95 (this
number might change, im not sure)
Click ok to terminate the program
clicke cancel to debug program

Niether of those to options does anything. The things that I have
found thus far that cause these errors are:

Shutting down
System Restore (the errors come up during the shutdown screen in these
two)
Starting an MSN messenger video conversation
opening AVG FREE Edition Test Center
Shutting down Zone Alarm Firewall
Shutting down Zone Alarm
There could possibly, and probably, be others, but this is what i've
discovered.

The main problem with this is that after these errors come up, no more
applications will open, and virus scans fail (they say that the DLL
Library is unavailable, yet they function normal up until that point).
Reinstalling windows is difficult, as Dell doesn't supply windows disks
with laptops, and I have a hard time thinking I can run the
applications which would allow them to reinstall it on my computer
remotely.

ANY insight would be greatly apprieciated.

I know it is too late now. When you have a good working system, use Acronis to
make an Image and you can always go back.

When you need to update Zone Alarm, you are encouraged to use their downloaded
file to uninstall rather than Windows install/Remove. You should try to
uninstall using that method and then re-install from the new download. I presume
you have the original download for the old ZA.
