Hub versus residential gateway

Peter Aitken

When running the XP Network Setup Wizard I am not sure which connection
method I should select: through a residential gateway or thru a network hub.
All my computers are connected to a Linksys WRT54GS "broadband router" and I
am not sure whether this is a gateway or a hub.

Thanks

Residential Gateway.

Hi.

In away it is both, and more.

Wireless Cable/DSL Routers are Combo units.

The Part between the Modem and your Network is the Router.

The Ports for your wired Network Computers is a Switch (which is a Modern
Hub).

The Access Point that provides the Wireless is a Wireless Gateway.

Jack (MVP-Networking).
