http 404 error

Somehow, my IE6 has been corrupted, and I can't connect to the internet.
Only get the "http 404 - file not found" error. Tried to download a new
ie6, but get an error that a later version is already installed. Go to
control panel/add-remove, but can't find ie6 to be able to remove it. go to
ie folder in program files, but no 'uninstall' executable exists. What can
I do now? I'm having to use mozilla, but prefer ie. I'm a novice, so
please be specific with any instructions.

Ross, Check out the thread listed below with the subject "Suddenly, only
https:// (secure) sites can be accesse" It worked for me and I was
experiencing similar issues. Originally what I did was remove XP SP2 through
the Add Remove Programs under the control panel but the error started coming
back.

Resets all the IE functions - for windows, hangups,

Start> Run> Paste this

and then do the same with each one of the following..

regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
