404 errors redirect

T

when I put in a invalid web address.
I get a 404 error, but then it instantly redirects to http://
www.google.com/.
SpyBot and AVG find nothing.
Searching in address bar is turned off.
Any Sugestions?

Hi,

The behavior of the 404 pages is defined by the webmaster.

Is this on all sites or just some of them?

I think you'll find that it does. Test by uninstalling Google Toolbar &
rebooting.

What is your default search set to in IE? I've never installed Google
toolbar, but I get redirected to Google with invalid sites (eg. http://www.adsasdads.dsadda
will redirect to Google). In IE7 I have Google set as my default search, if
I change it to Yahoo then IE7 pulls up Yahoo for invalid sites.

Are you using IE7 or IE6? If IE7, then the behaviour you're seeing is
expected.

Hi,

Did you run a spyware scan (Adware, Spybot, Windows Defender)? It seems
navcancl.dll (sorry - not sure about the name, and I have no IE6 any more)
is hijacked.
