When you say "console", isn't that the screen seen when going to a DOS
prompt in W9X, not a true DOS prompt (restart, F8...)?

In fact, it can be just about every human-computer interface...

It's been awhile since I did it, but that's what you have to do, load a
DOS 6.22 floppy, key FORMAT, and what happens is as I described. There
may be a way to wipe the drive with eraser utilities now, I don't know.

Use fdisk to remove & recreate the HDD partition?

I'd include the word "window" for the other. Eg, open a DOS window. I
attempted to Google after you posted, to see what common usage is, and
looks to be standard to do it that way. That is, the results showed that
when it's within Windows environment that's being discussed, the word
"console" is not used alone, but instead more like: "DOS console window."

And next, to Google for the usage you quoted me on, I saw a good number
of hits for "DOS + Console + boot."

The best definition of console? I don't have a good technical dictionary
at easy grasp. One place I looked, it started talking about UNIX, and
ancient times, and AFAIR, maybe about terminals, too. Now, for a truly
accurate definition? I'll trust JanC's reply in this thread: "It can be
just about every human-computer interface..."

Oh, and I wouldn't even mind if my use could be argued totally incorrect.
After all, I can always rely on the Alice's Walrus Defense. :)

Yeah. I've seen a small utility product called ClearHDD recommended
for this. Comes from Samsung, but allegedly works with other drives
too. Still only about 11 KB in 2003!

A similar ptogram that will clear HDD is slate.com

This utility not only clears the HDD but also has a feature to reverse
the action should one decide so later.

========================

Believe it or not, Adobe early-on had such a DOS version Acrobat.
I might try to find it in my archives and upload it to alt.binaries.misc if
enough people ask.
