HTML is displaying as plain text in Outlook 2003

HTML message are displaying as plain text. I can send out HTML formatted
messages but when I receive them, they are in plain text.
The HMTL format is greyed out so I can't change it.
If I forward the message, the body converts back to HTML.

What is going on.
I'd like to receive my messages in HTML format if they are formatted taht way.

Chances are that those E-Mails are in your junk mail folder, right? I have
the same problem with XP Home Outlook 2003 SP2, but have no idea which
system you are using. I found that by dragging my junk mail's' to my default
inbox I see them as html, and the links work. I haven't found any other
solution for this, so I just deal with it.
Open Outlook, drag all junk to inbox, continue.

I use XP Pro (SP2). The Email are in my default Inbox and the option to
"Read all standard mail as plain text" is NOT checked.

I'm sure there MUST be an option or registry setting somewhere that has
caused this condition.

Is there a link between this and IE 7 Beta 2?

I am having the same/similar issue. I have XP Pro SP2 running Outlook 2003
(11.8002.6568) SP2. I create emails in html or rich text format, but when
they are sent by Outlook they change to plain text. I check my Sent Items
and the message is saved in the created (html or rich text) format. I have
sent the same messages via Outlook Express in html using the same mailserver
and they go through fine.

I receive html messages just fine from everyone else. Everyone receives the
html messages I send with Outlook as plain text. Even when I forward an
html message (inline, not as attachment) it goes through as plain text, but
saves in Sent Items as html.

If IE makes a difference, I am using IE 6
(6.0.2900.2180.xp_xp2_gdr.050301-1519).

Make sure the properties of the mail address for the contact you're using
don't specify plain text only.

I opened my Address Book and checked the properties of several contacts.
Nowhere did I see a place to specify email format. When I clicked on the
New Message to Contact button, it opens up the Outlook editor for html
messages. I have tried Microsoft Outlook Help and even watched the
Microsoft Outlook website training that goes through the html, rich text,
and plain text messaging.

Where would the property that specifies plain text only be for a mail
address?

Open your Contacts folder and double-click on one of the recipients that is
having trouble. Double-click the E-mail address. You should see a
properties dialogue at the bottom of which is an "Internet Format"
drop-down.

Thanks, Brian.

I am unsure how several contacts got set to "Send Plain Text only", and I
was unaware that the email address in the Contact dialogue was active.
Since I have several hundred contacts and was getting tired of checking
one-by-one, I exported the contacts to a Windows CSV file and then
re-imported into my Contacts, choosing to replace duplicates. This had the
desired effect of resetting each email account to "Let Outlook decide the
best sending format". Wonder what the rules are for Outlook's decision.

Why there is not a "Send HTML only" option along with the "Send Plain Text
only" and "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format" options in the drop-down
list I wish I knew. I suppose Microsoft knows best.
