hp940c not printing for non-admin users

Nick Godfrey

I have an HP Deskjet 940c. It's connected via the parrallel port to
Windows XP SP2.

If I log in to an account with administrator rights, I can print with
no problems, but any 'normal user' accounts will not print. I can see
the job spooling in the print ques, but it then dissappears and
nothing comes out of the printer.

I've tried re-installing the printer and downloading the latest
drivers, but it still doesn't work.

HP technical support suggested "I would recommend you to login as
administrator and give all the users administrative rights on the
printer." I didn't think that this would be necessary, as I thought
that all users had rights to print on a printer without needing admin
rights to it.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can solve this?

Thanks

Go to Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel. Click on it then right click
on your printer and select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and select
Print Directvto Printer instead of the default Use Print Spooler.

This problem is most often seen on XP Home with Norton (Synantec) products
installed.
