hp3970 - Director Software Sucks

J

Jim Thompson

I recently bought an hp3970 to replace my old hp5100C which was
starting to skip lines.

The "Director" software accompanying the hp3970 is possibly the worst
software I have ever seen. I can't seem to get the marvelous copy
performance and contrast control of the old hpcopy program.

Does anyone know of replacement software with better performance?

Thanks!

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Along with the 3970 you get a program called Photo and Imaging. You can
edit, Email, Print, along with many other functions. I also bought
PaperPort Deluxe by Scansoft which allows you to scan to anyone of a number
of programs residing on your computer. You can also scan in PDF for
Documents and JPG for photos. There are probably other choices as well, but
I haven't tried them. Personallly, I prefer having Paperport send the scan
to Photoshop which offers unlimited means to edit. Paperport allows you to
set up folders comparable to file cabinets and scan directly to each folder.
In this way you can scan receipts, reports, bank statements, etc. and then
throw out the paper. It has searching capabilities so you can quickly
access any image and print or send. So far, I am thrilled with the quality
of the 3970, but disappointed in the time it takes to scan an image. I have
just ordered a PCI card with 4 USB2 ports which I hope will have a dramatic
impact on speed. Hope this helps.
