hp Scanjet 3970 Software

The software that came with my hp Scanjet 3970 is about the worst
software I have ever encountered.

Is there any good software out there to replace hp's crap?

Well, it depends on what you want it do. The 3970 UI may suck, but its
probably possible to get images from it with the UI off ... if you are
prepared to do a little programming. Once you have an image from the
scanner, you can do a lot.
