HP V40 all in one printer has compatibility problem with XP pro

I just read that a new driver might be the answer. I am real green, and have
already installed duplicates/triplicate programs.... so do I need to
un-install the printer and the drivers? When I re-install from my disk should
I, CAN I choose not to re-install the HP driver that is included with it?
-hope those Q's make some sort of sense, I haven't been able to use any of
the scan, fax, etc./features for a long time and am really needing to get
something sent out! So, PLEASE Can Anyone help?
