HP USB Printer Access via LAN

Hi,

I have bought a HP PSC 1100 Printer/Scanner/Copier. The printer works
well but there is a driver problem.

The printer is attached to my PC and I want to share it with my notebook
via LAN. Before I can print from the notebook (Win 98), I have to
install the driver. But I am not able to install the driver, because the
notebook does not have USB.

HP only provides a 180 MB Full installer which checks if you have enough
memory, USB and all that kind of stuff. I have not found a pure printer
driver which comes along with a standard .inf file and the correct dlls
(and about 1 MB instead of 180 MB).

Only that big, fat, ****ing package which I cannot install. Do you have
any ideas

- how to extract the pure printer driver from the package
- which printers use the same printer language (LIDIL) and come along
with a non-USB driver?

Thanks for any suggestions

Stefan

This uses the #56/57/58 set of cartridges. Use any driver for the 5xxx
series. The 'corporate' versions usually install using the Add Printer
wizard install of an install program. If you can't find a decent driver, a
9xx series driver should work OK for general purpose printing. For photo
printing, though, you want a driver designed for that set of cartridges
and ink.

I found a basic 'parallel' driver for the 5650. This version uses the
Add Printer wizard, so you should be able to install it and get it pointed
at the network share. (Long broken link below, or use the tiny version
below it.)

Thank you very much,

that's absolutely what I was looking for.

I will try it just in the evening.

Bye
