hp scanner update

I tried to install h p scanner into new windows xp home. Got message that win
98 hp scanner is not compatible. Found update that says it is compatible with
most windows. Tried to install but found that most features did not work.
Uninstall hp scanning software but now when I start windows a message informs
me { this program updates your hp scanning software} How do I uninstall or
delete this message?
