HP scanner - long initial delay

My HP 6350 (C7670A) drives me crazy. It's not just the
shoe-shining, it's the 30-second delay before it starts
scanning, even when the lamp is already on. I've tried another
HP (a 7400) and it was not much better. Why do they do that ?
And are there any ADF-equipped scanners that don't ?

My HP 5490C (also 5470C .... same scanner without ADF) will do
that ONLY if the lamp was not already on. It's necessary to
get the lamp up to full brightness (which also means correct
colors). But the scanner should be smart enough (and mine is)
to bypass the delay ***IF*** the lamp was already on.

Thanks. Mine must skip the delay too in some cases otherwise the
ADF would be horribly slow. But the commands really have to be
back-to-back. Do you know how long yours waits after completion
of a command ?
