HP Scanjet 5370c scanner

Ed.

A friend of mine is having a problem getting the HP 5370c scanner installed
on her new computer. I downloaded the 46MB update of the software and
drivers from the HP site. The scanner still won't work. Has anybody got this
scanner and have successfully installed it? If so, was there anything
special you had to do?

Thanks,
Ed.

How is the scanner connected? Have you tried unconnecting and
reconnecting via the USB port after a reboot?
Alos, assume you have read about known problems with this scanner.

From HP's website:

Step 1: Do you need to update?

Release Date: 2002-02-20 Version: 2.52

Description:
This is the complete scanning software for the sj5370c series of scanners.
This download does not contain any third party applications.

NOTE: Due to the size of the download and the time it would take, HP
recommends ordering the CD-ROM version rather than downloading the Web
version of the driver without broadband (Cable, DSL, T1, or equivalent)
Internet access. To order the full release CD, with all software features,
use the "Back" button to display the previous page and select the software
beginning with CD.

Choose the file you want to download to your system. With your mouse,
click on the file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to
select the folder (subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once
the file is downloaded, click on the file, the software will decompress
and then install automatically.

* During installation, you may see a message about "Digital Signature
Not Found". You must select "Continue" for the software to install correctly.
* Connect the scanner only after you have finished installing the
Scanning Software.

Known Issues:
Scanning software, scanner, and printer stop responding after using HP
ScanJet Copy Utility or scan-to-printer on a printer connected to the
5370C parallel pass-through port. This issue has only been seen in Windows
2000 and XP. The first copy or scan-to-printer operation works fine, after
that the customer will not be able to access the scanning software,
scanner or printer until the system has been restarted.

Resolution/Workaround:
Don't connect a printer to the scanner's parallel pass-through port in
Windows 2000/XP. Connect either the scanner and/or printer to a USB port.
