HP Scanjet 4p problem w/ XP

I am using an HP Scanjet 4p with the original Symbios SCSI adapter. I recently upgraded to Win XP from 98SE. The adapter and the scanner seem to install correctly. They are identified correctly in Device Manager, and both show to be working properly. However, when I try to use the scanner, the software cannot find it. Is there a way to use this scanner with Win XP?
