HP Pci Information service failed to start

My event viewer is indicating an error source of Service Control Manager. Double clicking this indicates the following:

The HP Pci Information service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have googled the HP Pci Information service and searched MS and HP, but have been unable to find any references to it. Does anyone know what it is, what it does and where it is located.

That utility probably will identify exactly what file and where it should be
located, and if it is having a permissions problem. Worth learning how to
use (especially the filtering part!) It needs to be running when you
experience the problem, of course. You might be able to generate the problem
by manually trying to start the service so that File Monitor will record the
attempt.

WinGuy,

Thanks for the assist, sounds like an interesting file. Unfortunately, I am getting a page error on the sysinternal.com site. I googled filemon, and it seems every site I found linked to the sysinternals site for the download. Hopefully this is a temporary problem. Do you know of any mirror sites?

Hi, Joe

Interesting. The site works fine, are you still experiencing the site
problem? It's a small file, just 94k (NTFILMON.zip), and would fit many
times on a floppy. Can you obtain it by using another system? Maybe you also
have a networking problem going on, possibly an infection -- just for a try,
temporarily rename your host file (there is no file extension for that file,
it's simply named "hosts") and see if that clears up the site error, and
check in IE to make sure the site is not configured as a restricted site.

Hello WinGuy,

All was well this morning. Maybe they were doing some system maintenance? ïŠ

Downloaded filemon and will give it a try shortly. I’ll let you know what I find out. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Take care,
Joe
