HP Laserjet 4 Plus Printer Gond Crazy

Using XP Pro SP1, my printer is gone crazy. It only prints a line of
strange characters at the top of the page no matter what document I try to
print. When I try to print a test page, it prints out many sheets of paper
but not a test sheet. I was using the Microsoft driver and have tried the
HP driver but nothing works. it was printing fine the other day. Also, I
have run the File Protection routine for Win XP. Still no go. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to answer my own post but I tried setting up a LaserJet III driver in
XP and that printed from Notepad. What is the next closest driver to the 4
Plus I can try to use or can I repair this 4 Plus driver??

Have you tried unplugging it or even reinstalling ? Uplugging can have
amazing results.

There are LJ 4 drivers supplied with XP. If you go to Printers and
Faxes, r-click it, and in Properties - Advanced click New Driver and you
can install afresh. Select HP on the left, browse to Laserjet 4P.
There are both an MS (signed) one, on the CD, and an HP (unsigned) one
where you would have to download from
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html
