HP Help and Support

I am having a problem with my Help and Support feature on Windows X
SP2. It is a HP laptop with customized HP Help and Support. When
start Help and Support it comes up fine except that the applicatio
hangs on the Latest News feature, where it would connect with the H
server for latest news or features I guess. By hanging here I cannot d
a search from within the search box, and I cannot set search options, i
hangs and then does nothing and I have to manually kill it. Now I hav
been going round and round with HP on this issue and they are at th
point of Reinstall your Operating System. I am just not willing t
reinstall and have to then reinstall every program afterwards, when i
fact the program works fine in Safe Mode except that in the latest new
section it pops an error about connecting to the internet before runnin
H&S, well this is expected because the internet is not active in Saf
Mode. But then I can do searches for local help, just not HP an
Microsoft database help. This is a new hard-drive because my hard-driv
crashed and I had a new one installed by CompUSA but they installed i
blank and I reinstalled everything myself as per my request. This i
just a real pain since it is a central part of XP that doesn't work
Any ideas?

By the way, latest version of HP Help and Support uninstalled an
reinstalled, latest XP updates, everything is udpated, tried turnin
off my Norton, My Microsoft Antispy, tried it everyway possible, eve
tried creating a new user account and logging in as that user and stil
no go, except in Safe Mode.

My objections to reinstalling are many but the point I tried to make t
HP was that if the function works properly in Safe Mode versus Norma
Boot Mode then it can't be a corrupt OS file, but another progra
stopping it from functioning correctly. I have even tried it using
wired connection versus my wireless connection and no go that wa
either. And I am not going to spend the next two weeks restoring m
computer to get this to work. It did work after first installing bu
something has come in conflict. I believe that something is one o
Stardocks softwares and please don't tell me to go over to ther
forums, because I already have and there is no issue with Help an
Support on there forums.

Any ideas

Just so I don't get any responses to this I thought I would write back
and let you all know that the problem has been fixed and is actually
related to a dll loaded by Stardock's Object Desktop IconPackager
called iprepair.dll. Uninstalled IconPackager and everything is fine.
