HP economode

Just got a new HP LaserJet 1022. I had intended to use the economode
as default (which certainly seems fine for general use) and only turn
it off for the occasional important letter. But the manual says darkly
that this is 'not recommended'. Anybody know why not? Is it only to
sell more toner or will it have an adverse effect on the printer?

It will not have an adverse effect on the printer, the printer engine is
unaffected by how much toner is transferred to a page.
There may be a problem with some toner cartridges if they are permanently run
in economode in that the number of drum rotations will be higher during the
cartridge life than the manufacturer may have anticipated so the drum may wear
out before the toner is used up, be aware that this is speculation and not
based on experience. However this is not a problem with the cartridge used in
this printer and in general is not a problem with HP lasers.
If economode works for you then give it heaps.
