Is it possible to get an HP Pavilion networked to a Compaq Presario 5012US
through the use of a direct parallel cable? I'm trying to run them through
the printer ports right now and everything seems to be working but there's no
communication. My 'host' keeps waiting for a signal, and my 'guest' keeps
sending one. The compaq is older and I just want to transfer data over..
mainly pictures and work files. (Oddly enough, the old compaq can't burn
CD-ROMs and the new HP dosen't have a 4.5" floppy). Any help would be
appreciated.

Are you using the right type of cable? A parallel data transfer
(a.k.a. Laplink, Interlnk, or DCC) cable crosses over several wires,
as shown here:

These web pages have instructions for using DCC:

Thanks!! I had forgotten that the cables needed to cross wires.. duh :) And
the websites included were perfect. Thanks again :)
