Hp Deskjet 722C prints purple instead of black

I have an HP Deskjet 722C printer. It has worked
marvelously for several years. Now, from IE6, it prints
a purplish blue instead of black. Other colors print,
but seem to have a purplish hue as well.

Any ideas? I have replaced the printer cartridges,
tested printing from other applications (which print just
fine), tested printing on another printer (prints black
and colors just fine,) downloaded and applied the most
recent driver(s), and anything else I can think of. I do
not know if the problem is in IE or my printer, but I can
find no answer.

Anybody else have this problem?

Just printed a pic of a dead white microwave oven and it came out purple-ish
rather than white on my several yr old hp720c which still has the orig color
cartrige and about a 3yr old black cart. I don't often use the printer,
mostly just an occasional copy machine type use with the $19 flatbed scanner
which works well enough ... Have Nikon's Coolpic digicam - also printed a
purplish pic of a visiting racoon recently. Other than those two it used
to print everything quite well and realistic. Figured it was either time
for new ink,(they do have expire dates on the boxes), or the fairly new
laptop color scheme might be in need of tweaking ... but now you got me
wondering.
Same $300 printer last seen in OfficeDepot was $150 ,, and that was a couple
years ago or more.

Printed from a WinME laptop.. if thats significant.
