HP 970 Cartridge problem with solution

The printer, prints the test page at normal speed but when printing
a regular page it pauses about 8 seconds at both ends of the
line.until eventually indicating that there is something wrong with
one of the cartridges. Some times the black, other times the color. It
continues printing until the end of the page but refuses to print
after that and one of the cartridge lights come on.
After trying everything I can think of, including new drivers and
hard reset , I decided to purchased new cartridges.
After the installation of the new cartridges , everything went back to
normal.
The printer cover is off . With the printer OFF and the power cord
also disconnected I replace the black cartridge with the old one and
the printer went back to the previous behaviors.
What indication does the cartridge send to the printer that stops it
from printing ?

The printer recognised the black cartridge as "clogged" or the black
cartridge developed heat because of clog (most posible the second case). I
suspect damage cartridge, most possible a not well refilled.

There is a thermal sense in the cartridges. At the end of every swath the
printer checks the printhead temperature and pauses for up to 8 seconds to let
the printehad warm or cool if the cartridge appears too hot or cold. You
probably have am electrical fault in the cartridge making it appear too hot.

It is not a good idea to change the cartridge they way you did as the printer
thinks it has a different cartridge than the one you are running. This will
cause the thermal and energy calibration to be incorrect, and will also cause
the alignment to be wrong. Only change the cartridges by opening the lid and
changing them at the proper load point for proper printer operation.

That's it Bob. I have been wondering if that is a temperature sensor
in the printhead that caused the printer to slowdown at the end of
each passage.
You may not be speaking for your employer, HP, but you are certainly
providing a great service to us. Without your help, I would have
switched to Canon some time ago.

Thanks to all of you

Hi Bob. Reading some of your incite and help, that you have provided in
this group, I'm ready to ask you and request you input and help on a
question on my New HP CSP 1210 unit.
I've been reading some comments about some of these units having a
memory of the carts condition as used.
Q- If I remove a almost empty cart in order to refill it and then
reinstalling it, will there be a problem with the memory factor in the
printer, that will reject that cart? If yes, how can I overcome this
problem, must I install a new cart or how does this work.
Any help and info. you can give us on this, will be much appreciated
(I'm not at all familiar with all the stuff I'm reading here, but I sure
like to learn and this looks like a good place.)
TIA
BN
