howto install database on a dedicated sql server / team installation?

Since we now work as team on our xp builds I want to reinstall xp
embedded from the scratch. The database and the repository folder are to
reside on a dedicated SQL Server 2000 machine.
Now it seems as I miss the fundamental knowledge how to start the
database installation process on a remote sql machine. Until now I
installed the Embedded Tools (giving the server name for remote access)
and skipped installation of the MSDE. But how to create and fill the
database on the sql server?

Thanks in advance!

On the server, perform the following:

1. Install SQL Server 2000 - make sure it is running.
2. Run the Setup for the XPe Tools and tool updates - not MSDE. You will
want Device Manager localy.
3. Insert CD-1, install the XPe database for SP1, then install the SP2
update, and finally the FP2007 update.

This is what i guessed it should be. Although the sql server 2000 is
definitly running (is used also for other purposes) the installation
process for the database says I should install a msde or a sql server
2000 or higher. And then exits. Tried with a "local database" during
tool setup and a remote (giving the local computername). Don't know what
to do...
What rights does Windows Embedded database installation need to get
access to the database?
Because this sql server resides on a vmware guest we connect to it via
the VMWare Server Console and the installation cd is accessed via a
network share. Hope this is no point.

I cannot speak to the VMWare since I installed SQL Server natively. It
shouldn't matter. I loged in as the administrator to install the database.
