How would I turn off Automatic Updates?

How would I turn off Automatic Updates? Are there any negative implications
if I turn the automatic updates off and I manually update Windows?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

P.S. I have Windows XP with SP2.

Right click My Computer and click Properties.
Click Update tab.
Make selection as appropriate and click OK.
There are other options other than Automatic and off.

"any negative implications"
None as long as you remember to check for updates.
Normally updates are issued the second Tuesday of each month so
checking the next day should suffice.
But you must remember to check.

A2. No, not if you /religiously/ check-in at Windows Update website at least
once-a-week.

Tip: Select AU's "Notify Only" option so you can review AND approve what
updates are downloaded AND installed.

I did all that but there is a problem: updating manually is very slow. It
takes ±½ hour. I have manually updated three times and has taken about half
an hour each time.

There is no negative side if you do manually updates instead of
automatically update. You can go to control panel>automatic updates and turn
off or set the automatic updates daily or weekly at times when noone uses
the computer such as 2:00 AM.
