Gurus,

How do I turn OFF the Windows Security Center? I have a certain
stand-alone machine in which I want Automatic Updates turned off....and I am
doing that for a reason - the machine is a lab box. So I don't need it
checking for Automatic Updates, Antivirus, and Firewall being turned on or
off.

You don't turn off Security Centre.

You can turn off checking for :

1). Firewall
2). Automatic Updates
3). Antivirus

By going into 'Security Centre' in Control Panel, and clicking on
"Change the way Security Centre alerts me" - the last item down in the
"Resources" panel on the left-hand side.

Uncheck the individual items corresponding to the list above.

That is totally unnecessary - to stop Security Centre from starting as a
service.

To stop the functionality of Security Centre monitoring Firewall /
Automatic Updates / Antivirus is all that is needed - and this can be
done simply.

To my eyes - this answer smacks of "cleverness" where a simpler solution
would have sufficed.
