how to use Windows XP Mode?

I just installed Windows XP Mode (ie. which uses Virtual PC to run
Windows XP apps) and am not sure how to use it. I don't see an entry
for it in the Start menu. If I right click on a program and select
compatability mode, I can chose from lots of different options -
Windows XP SP3 or even Windows 95. Since Windows 95 presumably isn't
using Virtual PC in the same way that Windows XP Mode is supposed to
use it, I'm going to have to guess that selectign Windows XP SP3 in
that tab isn't going to utilize Windows XP Mode. So what will?

virtual pc installs an environment
for running other o.s. without
interfering with the main os.

the first step is to create a
file/folder/environment in vpc
to house the secondary o.s.

you will also need to set a
size for that folder as well.

for winxp you can set it
to between 5 - 10 gigs.

the above allocates disk
space for vpc to house the
virtual o.s.'s

after vpc creates the virtual
folder,

you can then install the o.s.
in that folder.

if I recall a window will appear
black and there will be options
in the menu to boot the the cd
inside that window.

also, check the other settings that
allocates memory to use for the
folder for that virtual o.s. you are
going to install.

the settings may show up before
allocating the location and disk
space that will house the virtual o.s.
you want to install.

set it to 512 megs, that is if
you have 1 gig of memory or
more.

if you have less memory then
assign 256 megs..

if you make a mistake with
the above,

simply delete the folder you
created and start over inside
vpc

but remember that all of
the above will be done inside
the vpc program.

if vpc is too confusing then
try virtual box.

it is configured differently than
vpc.

once you are successful with
creating a virtual environment
for the o.s. and after you install
the o.s.

you should have the option to
boot it./ launch xp

it will boot inside a virtual window
on the desktop and you can resize.

also keep in mind that the mouse
will be shared between the virtual
o.s. and your current vista desktop.

so read the messages the vpc
provides that will tell you which
key combination you will need
to switch the mouse between
the virtual pc and your regular
desktop.

hope the above basics helps.

but remember that you can always
delete the vpc file you created in the
vpc program and start over.

Win XP Mode (Actually XP Pro SP3) is specifically designed for "Windows
Virtual PC" - not "virtual PC 2007". After installing Windows Virtual PC
XP mode will automatically install within the virtual PC. A folder titled
"Windows Virtual PC" will be created - contents will be the virtual PC, XP
Mode , any other OS (Vista) installed as well as any applications installed
within the virtual PC.XP mode

Erm... Your PC must run genuine Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate to
install Windows XP Mode. It won't work on Vista.
