how to UPGRADE to win xp home edition from win 98 using a FULL win xp home edition cd

From an entry I previously saw in a different news group the following
was stated:
You can upgrade from a full version disk or install a full version
from an upgrade disk. The only difference is a check built into the
setup program that looks for the older version. The CAB files are
exactly the same and the rest of the functionality is the same.

I agree with this statement, at least in theory, but of course this is
made difficult with all the different mumbo jumbo version of CDs that
allow this but don't allow that making it hard to do the simplest of
things that you really should be able to do with out having to buy 10
CDs when one, particularly the full should do it all!

Does anybody ou there have the exact process for doing these 2 things
(would really appreciate it). As an example: I noticed in my seperate
FULL WIN XP PRO edition I have the installation pull down menu options
to "upgrade" or "new installation" unfortunately my FULL home home
edition CD does not provide you with this "upgrade option only the new
installation option, and at this point I really just wanted to upgrade
to WIN XP home edition from one of my win 98 version machines.

Thanks to all in advance!

1.It seems your XP CD dosen't autoplay on 98....
2.I suggest you to run clean installation....It is usually better...
3.The XP installation processs is easy, really, I don't cheat people....

ER,

Is your FULL Windows XP Home Edition a retail CD (came in a big green
cardboard box etc) or an OEM CD ?
If it is an OEM CD then this is why you do not get the upgrade option - OEM
CDs are for installation to a bare harddrive and are not to be used for
upgrades. This is why the OEM CD is not available as an Upgrade CD only a
Full Edition.

If this is not your situation then please get back to us.
