How to UNRECOVER file fragments ?

M

Mike

I had a power loss. I turned on my computer
and the File Checking Utility recovered some
of the files into Recovered File Fragments
or (FILE0000.CHK, FILE0001.CHK etc.)

I REALLY WANT TO UNDO THIS !

THE QUESTION IS HOW ?

There is nothing natively within XP that can do this. You might try running
a search at www.google.com for an application that might handle this.

The best undo of this type of issue is a good backup.

Have you checked to be sure you've actually lost files? Often, file
fragments are simply strays of files that have already been deleted.

There are services that handle file recovery. You can find them in the back
of most PC magazines. I haven't used them but they specialize in situations
where a hard drive has died and the user needs to get their data or the
computer was in a fire or flood. I would think if anyone had the ability,
it would be them.

When you searched Google, did you use the search term "File Recovery"
without the quotes? I'm almost certain that would generate a lot of hits.
As I haven't used any of this software, I can't give you a recommendation.
There is an application called Undelete but I don't know if can handle file
fragments. So, in addition to using "File Recovery" as your search
criteria, you might use "Undelete" as well.
