How to unistall XP and transfer OE records

Advice request...

Had 2 hard drives C (master) and F(slave). Windows XP loaded on C - and
F just as backup.
XP became corrupt so disconnected C and loaded XP onto F (new C) - all ok.
Have now reconnect the old C as slave.

What I want to do now is to uninstall windows XP from the old C and also
access and copy valuable data from old C.

Please advise how do I:-

1. Uninstall XP from old C?

2. View Outlook Express address book and contents of various OE folders on
old C

3. Copy above to OE on new C

4. View Internet Explorer favourites on old C

5. Copy above to IE on new C

Also, since I'm not exactly sure where the curruption is in XP and if
uninstalling it it will definitly uninstall EVERYTHING from XP - so thinking
about moving everything off and formatting it to be sure. Any comment on
such proposed action?

Thanks,

Pete

1. Uninstall XP from old C?
Aradur, you don't have to uninstall XP from C. Just make sure all your data
is moved and then format it.

2. View Outlook Express address book and contents of various OE folders on
old C
While in Outlook Express click File, Import, Address Book and then navigate
to this folder in your old C
Documents and Setting/yourloginname/Application Data/Microsoft/Address Book.

4. View Internet Explorer favorites on old C
Your old favorites are in Documents and Settings/yourloginname/Favorites

5. Copy above to IE on new C
Copy the folder found in 4 above and paste it into the same location on the
new C drive.

You can also find all your mail messages in Documents and
Setting/yourloginname/Local Settings/Application Data/Identities/long
number/Microsoft/Outlook Express and can move those messages by doing a
File, Import, messages and pointing to that folder.

Hi, Pete.

Since you've got WinXP working well on the "new C", with the "old C as
slave", you're nearly done. Don't bother to uninstall WinXP on the old
drive. When you've recovered everything useful off the old drive and
reformatted it, everything will be gone, including that installation of
WinXP.

Boot into WinXP on the new Drive C:. Check to see which drive letter is
assigned to your "old C", or use Disk Management to assign a temporary drive
letter of your choice; for now, I'll assume it's Drive X:.

Start Outlook Express. Click File | Import... and choose which info you
want to transfer from the old drive. You'll have to guide the Wizard to the
files on Drive X:, but it should be able to easily import your address book,
mail and news account settings, and your messages from the old drive.

Then start Internet Explorer, click File | Import and Export... and follow
the Wizard to import your favorites from Drive X:.

Use Windows Explorer (or Xcopy.exe from the "DOS" window) to recover
anything else you want to save from Drive X:. Don't bother to recover the
\Windows folder, which contains WinXP. Whatever corruption is there doesn't
matter because it will be wiped out in the next step.

Go to Disk Management and repartition your old hard drive to suit yourself,
assign drive letters, and reformat it.

Thanks VM for all the advice - and for OE great all details transfered from
X to C - chuffed :)

With IE, however, bit of a prob...did this...
Open IE in C drive

Click file import and export

In Import and Export Wizard click next

Highlight Import favorites

Click next

Tick import from file or address

Browse to show X:\documents and settings\myname\favorites in Select window

and that shows, in Select Bookmark File...

Favorites in Save In window

All the Folders and files I wish to transfer in the Main Window

bookmark.htm in the File Name window

and HTML (*.htm *.html) in the Save as Type Window

Click Save

then in the Import/Export Wizard click Next

then get the dreaded Cannot find the X:\documents and
settings\myname\favorites\bookmark.htm please choose another file.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Pete
