How to uninstall updates?

The automatic updates for Windows XP (which I have now disabled), have caused
problems with running Microsoft programs like Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
When I try to open these programs now it calls for the "Microsoft Office XP
Professional with Frontpage cd" in order to install the program. What can I
do? I was thinking maybe there is a way to uninstall some of the updates?

Thanx!

Did you try putting in the CD?

Marie, do you have a Microsoft Office XP CD? If so, insert it in your
cdrom drive and let it do what it has to do.
I don't think that the latest updates caused the problem you are having..
But, though I think it's a waste of time
If you want to try Uninstalling the latest updates go to C:\Windows and
look for $NTUninstall folders. They are the WinXP Updates. Open the folder
and you will
see a spuninst folder. Open that folder and double click on the
spuninst.exe file. That should uninstall the update

You need to use the windows installer cleanup utility, after you use this
you "may" need to reinstall your office products.(I had to do this and all
of my office settings stayed intact after the reinstall, hopefully yours will
too.)

I also have turned off windows update, you can sign of for microsofts
security bulltins which you will recieve an email before updates are
released explaining what they are for and you can decied just what updates
are needed for your system, the vast majority of updates each month ARE NOT
needed for the home user.
You can sign up here
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/advance.mspx

This is another great email you can sign up for.
http://www.ultimatewindowssecurity.com

It breaks down each update what it is for and who needs it, as you can see
for the home page not one update for april was needed for the home user. Why
add all of that garbage to your system when it is not needed?

If you decied that you need an update you can download it from here.
