Hi

Did you recieve any error messages while installing SP2? You may have to
reinstall/uninstall SP2 as it would appear that some files may have become
corrupt.

I'm going to go a step further. With all the problems
people are having, it can't possibly be worth installing
SP2 in the first place. We are all exhorted to download
and protect, but at what price? I am simply not brave or
game enough to run the risk of the PC not working the way
it works now, perfectly well, without any security issues
or other problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I did the download and I lost my printer and sound connections but I backed
all the important data up.
Then I did a complete fresh install of xp then video drivers and anti-virus
software. Next I installed sp1a then sp2.
It seems to be working fine now. It does have a problems with virtual drives
created by alcohol 120 and programs like that.
They lock the atapi file and you will get a error message when trying to
update to sp2. It has some good stuff and some stuff that is a pain in the
ass.

Back when I used to upgrade versions of dos for folks eg dos 5 to 6.22
or 6.0 to 6.22 one had, or should I say should have had to do, edit
config.sys and autoexec.bat and rem out all the trash prior to
upgrading. You'd often see nasty memory managers in there, screen
savers, way outdated anti-virus things, etc. Rem them out, no problem
with the OS upgrade.

Same theory applies for the XP2 OS upgrade ie get a clean boot going
first, then do the work.
