Hi Rubyredrose,

You can uninstall XP Pro if you installed it as an upgrade from a previous
operating system and opted to keep the previous operating system's system
files during the upgrade.

Otherwise, in order to "downgrade" to Home Edition, you would need to
perform a clean install. You might find the information here helpful:

It is not very complicated. If you put the XP Home disc into the drive, when
it starts you will be told that you can't upgrade to this version (which
makes sense since you are downgrading). By following the instructions, you
can get XPHome installed. Before you start, however, you need to check your
BIOS settings, as it needs to be set up to check the CD-ROM drive before the
Hard Drive. To do this, look for a message when the computer starts saying
'Press _ to enter SETUP' (replace _ with whatever it says). Push this key. If
there is not a message like this, the most common keys are Delete, F1 and F2,
although it varies. It will be under something like 'Boot Sequence' or
'Startup Sequence', again it varies and you may need to consult the
motherboard manual. Once you have done this, you need to back up any
documents, as downgrading 'formats' (wipes everything off) your Hard Drive,
so triple check that you have anything that you want to keep on removable
storage, and that you can access it. During setup you ought to get the
message when your computer restarts 'Press any key to boot from CD...' or
something similar. The first time you see it, press any key. The second time,
ignore it and let the computer start up completely. When setup is finished,
configure XP through the step-by-step guide and you're done! It is now safe
to reload your backup.
Hope this helps.

PS A clean install means you will lose ALL data /Apps

Is there a specific reason for going back to Home?

I am new at all of this, i have two desktops 1st XP pro 2nd XP home I had 1 modem actiontec gt701. I didn't know it was mean't for only 1 pc . So i used both USB and Ethernet connections I realized that my home edition looked nicer after a few days,I thought the update was responsible ,(auto updates) well last Friday i bought Microsoft digital image anniversary edition after installing it i received a notice that my copy of windows was activated. I'd like to mention I have gone to update website several times a month. So I called Microsoft I explained to them I have CD for XP home edition (upgrade) but !st pc I bought from an individual that did not give me any software. They told me I needed to un install xp pro and reinstall xp home and then call them back so that i register my windows xp home edition. I am a newbie, so any thing sent to me please K.I.S.S. very simple.

I'm afraid that the only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home
is to format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade
path or technique.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation,, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.

Thanks for all the input, I've checked the boot sequence to make sure it
checks CD-ROM drive before Hard drive. I have several CD-Roms and 2 more
desktops should i transfer my documents to CD ROM or could i just save them
in other computer? also you mention Documents... (pic, music &letters) how
about browers ,favorites, images settings for instance several of the sites I
visit My computer automatically remembers password. Well some I don't
remember is there a file that I can find that has all of this info? I'm
wanting to make sure that I don't lose any thing I will need
