How to turn off simple file sharing

Trying to follow these instructions below to clear the simple file sharing,
but the "use simple file sharing" nor "Advanced Settings" are not visible
under the View tab. My file system is for C: is NTFS as required, but I my
second drive D: is FAT32. Is the second drive the problem?

Folder Options | View tab | Advanced Settings is the window that lists
various display options for file, folder, and desktop content.

Is your OS Home or Pro? If Home it's not available in normal mode. To
access the Security tab boot into safe mode and login the built in
Administrator account.

I can get to the option to turn off use simple file sharing, but it keeps
rechecking it self. I click apply before closing the window. Using xp pro.
Any suggestions on how to keep it from defaulting back?
Thanks Susan
