My desktop theme changes periodically by itself.

Any idea on how to make the theme I want to stick "forever"?

Thanks.

Steve

You might get a little more help if you were a little more descriptive about
the problem.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting!

I suspect that you have installed some third-party application like Style
XP from TGTSoft which can change the Windows XP theme. Its service can
change the theme periodically. However, there are still some other
third-party application can do this. I cannot tell which cause your problem.

You may try clean boot to isolate the problem.

1. Click Start (menu), Point to Run (menu) and then type "MSCONFIG"
(without quotation marks) and then press OK to start the System
Configuration Utility.

Note: To create a clean environment for troubleshooting, you must be logged
on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to
complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network,
network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this
procedure.

2. On the General tab, click Diagnostic startup - load basic devices and
services only, click OK, and then click Restart to restart your computer.

3. After Windows starts, determine whether the symptoms are still present.

4. If the problem occurs with Msconfig in a Clean Boot Environment, then it
may be driver related, and we would need to start disabling non-critical
devices in Device Manager, like sound, external devices, modems, etc...

This information was copied from the Help in Msconfig, click the Help
button on Msconfig for more details.

For more information about clean boot, please refer to KB article Q310353:
How to Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP.

I hope that the above information is helpful.

Have a nice day!
