Hey Friends,

I am using windows 2000 Pro, with a tape drive installed.
Now what I want to share that tape drive so from the
other machines (inside of network) I can make backup on
it, is there a way to share that tape drive? And one
thing more how can we check the disk space of backup tape?
Thank you,

You cannot share a tape drive, because its interface software
needs to talk directly to the drive. However, you can do it
the other way round: You can create a backup program that
runs on the PC with the tape drive, and backs up data
residing on other PCs. Its based on standard file and folder
sharing techniques.

You ask "how can we check the disk space of backup tape?"
I assume you mean "free space". AFAIK you can't. Just
make sure that the amount of data you back up is less than
the capacity of the tape. If unsure, check before you start
the backup.

Friend,

OK I will share folders on that win2k Pro. machine, For
each user (workstations) but I want to give them the
(folder size) limited access of those folders so that
they can copy their important files, but if they are
trying to take more space first they have to ask me, is
it possible to share folders for users with size limit? I
know the use of "Disk Quota" but that is different
utility, it will not solve my problem,

Thanks a lot,

Normally, the tape software should tell you how much space is used on the
tape... pretty much it is the only way.
