How to setup the ADSL connection on XP

S

Sum

I had followed the following procedure in installing the
ADSL connection right to step 5.

1. In Control Panel, double-click Network and Internet
Connections (or Network Connections and skip step 2).
2. Click Network Connections, click Create a new
connection in the Network Tasks pane to start the Network
Connection Wizard, and then click Next.
3. Click to select Connect to the Internet, and then click
Next.
4. Click to select Set up my connection manually, and then
click Next.
5. Click to select Connect using a broadband connection
that requires a user name and password or Connect using a
broadband connection that is always on.
Type the ISP name that your Internet service provider
(ISP) provided, and then click Next.
Type the user name that the ISP has provided.
Type the password that the ISP has provided.
Type the password once more to confirm, and then click
Next.
Click to select Add a shortcut to this connection to my
desktop.
Click Finish to complete the wizard.

However, the option "Connect using a broadband connection
that requires a user name and password " is dimmed and not
selectable !

Any suggestion ?????

Go into Device Manager and make sure your Network Adapter is working
properly.

This sounds as if you are connecting using a device that plugs in
(probably) to USB, rather than an ethernet connection on a network card.
For such devices you use the 'connect using a modem' , and you will
probably found it shown as an ISDN device

Either that, or your network card is disabled. Look for it in Control
Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager under 'Network Adapters'
Right click and if there is 'Enable' on the Popup, click it. If that is
not thee, but the icon for the device has a red cross or ! double click
and troubleshoot
