Hi:
I am trying to set up a network with 2 computers. I have a
cable modem and a hub. How do I connect the 2 computers
together so I can share printers, files, etc and the
internet?

You could simply not use the hub at all, and use a CAT 5 crossover cable to
connect one PC to the other with a Network Interface Card (NIC) plugged into
each PC. In this setup, you would make one of the PCs the host computer. For
the host, a second NIC installed in that PC would be used to connect to the
cable modem. The other (client) PC would be able to access the internet only
when the host PC is up and running. The software controlling such a setup is
called Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), which is a feature of W98SE and
later operating systems.

Details on this, and other network issues, can be found at
www.practicallynetworked.com.

I am trying to setup a network with XP as the host and
98 as the other, I have run all the setups and each
computer is networked and acknowledges the network, but
they don't recognise each other. I am mentioning this
because it is linked with the topic, can you help me to
get them to find each other on the network.
thanks

You also need to enable file sharing.
