How to set up for word completion, like the date does

I think that the older versions of word had a place where you could list
frequently typed words and then when you are composing a document that uses
the word it will automatically suggest it? Does 2007 have this feature, if
yes where?

In Word 2007, AutoComplete suggestions (if that's what you are thinking of)
are no longer triggered for AutoText entries; AutoComplete only works with
dates now.

You can still insert any AutoText entry by typing sufficiently many
characters from its name so that Word can uniquely identify it (a minimum of
four characters required) and then press F3.

FWIW, a minimum of four characters is NOT required to trigger F3 in Word
2007; you need only enough to be unique. I have so few AutoText entries
that, to insert my lorem ipsum text (which requires "lore" in Word 2003), I
can type just the letter "l" and then press F3 in Word 2007.

Interestingly, I tried this in Word 2003, and it did *not* work, so I
assumed it was a new wrinkle in Word 2007. After examining my AutoText
entries in Word 2003, however, I see that there is a built-in one for "Love"
(as a closing), which requires me to type "lor" before hitting F3 to get my
lorem ipsum text, and that does work. Apparently Word 2007 does not include
(or at least my copy does not include) these built-in entries, so there is
no conflict.

Just to clarify further. As I read your posts, Stefan and Suzanne, it sounds
as if Word 2003 always requires at least 4 characters in order to insert an
AutoText.

In Word 2003 and earlier versions, 4 characters or more are required for
_AutoComplete_ to be triggered.

However, as in Word 2007, you can insert the AutoText by pressing F3 even if
you have entered fewer than 4 characters, provided the AutoText can be
uniquely identified (only one character may be sufficient) - and AutoTexts
with names as short as one character are also accepted (also in Word 2007).

In further experimentation, I found that Word 2003 actually works the same
way, but the built-in AutoText entries in Word 2003 include "Love" in the
Closing style, so it's necessary to type "lor" or "lov" to get the
appropriate entry in that case. OTOH, I have an ancient entry named KBURL,
which inserts http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q???/?/??.asp
(no longer the format for KB URLs, so I might as well delete it); since I
have no other entries beginning with K, I can type "k" and press F3, and
that one is inserted. So both versions work the same way, but we are just
accustomed to waiting for AutoComplete in versions before Word 2007.

FWIW, Word 2007 only has a small number of built-in AutoText entries.
Obviously, it has a lot of other building blocks categories instead. :)
