How can I set the system so that I do not have to type in my login
password to start the OS?

remove your password in account settings. as long as your login is the only
account, it should boot straight into it. there may be other ways, but I
know this works.

In an elevated command prompt type:

"control userpasswords2", then press the Enter key;
(of course, type the line without the quotation marks).

A window will pop up with several options. Look
trough them and find the option for users to login with-
out to have to type in the password at logon. You
have to type in the password within this dialog twice
to confirm it, but on the next reboot you don't have
to anymore. That's how I remember the procedure to
my best knowledge. I'm on XP right now, but will
check later again, if I find I gave a wrong informa-
tion at some point.

Thanks for the information.
