How to separate a part of postings as a new thread?

In a NG, I have joined with a question similar to that of the OP. I wanted
to avoid a new thread to prevent that NG of being extended too much, and I
expected only one answer. But my question initiated a lot of following
postings. So, after all I wish I had made up a new thread.
Is it possible to separate all these postings into a separate thread? Or at
least to change the content of the subject-line?

In Windows Mail, a slow way to do this is to click at the end of
the subject line of your new message, then backspace over it,
then type a new subject line.

It depends somewhat on the newsreader you are using. If you are using
Windows Mail newsreader, when you respond, just highlight the subject and
retype what you want. Probably the same procedure or very close in most
readers. Is there something more to this?

You can't do that, period. You can't change what previous posters wrote.

Doing so requires that you can edit existing posts that you didn't write, on
Usenet servers all over the world.

It's like issuing cancels for messages you didn't write - that generally
isn't supported.
